Learn moreThere has been a great deal of publicity recently in relation to Divorce/Family mediation and you may have mixed views about it - having spoken to others who have gone through the process or, even, having seen the recent BBC three part programme “Mr v Mrs – Call the Mediator”. But is mediation worth considering for you?
Mediation can be used to deal with either Children or Finances within a Divorce or relationship breakdown. It may not be suitable for everyone but an initial individual meeting between the Mediator and each party will mean that she or he can assess whether mediation is suitable and whether you are both willing to engage in the process. Following that, a joint mediation session can either start immediately or at a later date. Usually there are about 3 joint sessions required for financial mediation and anything between 1 and 3 sessions in relation to Children.
At SpainWilliams we are pleased to introduce our Solicitor-Mediator, Kate Lovegrove, who, as a practising Family Solicitor, brings a wealth of information about the legal process and the current thinking of the Family Court. Her advice is that, if both parties approach the sessions with a flexible mindset and demonstrate a willingness to compromise with each other, then this can be a valuable process for both of you.
For more information about Mediation or to book an appointment with Kate please call us on 01959 580680.
