I am a specialist family law solicitor. My work includes divorce and civil partnership dissolution together with the resolution of financial issues arising on separation.
I have dealt with a wide range of complex financial disputes involving short and long marriages and those involving long periods of separation. I have acted in cases involving shareholdings, offshore assets, trusts, disputes as to the valuation of assets and international taxation issues. I draft and advise clients in relation to pre and post nuptial agreements.
I also advise my clients in relation to issues concerning their children. This includes disputes as to where their children will live, prohibited steps orders and specific issue orders such as which school they will attend. I have significant experience advising parents and acting for them where they wish to take their child to live abroad, or defending such applications brought by the other parent.
I have extensive experience of international family law matters. International families need specialist family law advice in the event of family breakdown. This advice includes identifying the most advantageous country in which to bring separation or divorce proceedings (known as forum shopping); advising and acting where there is a dispute as to the country in which a divorce should take place (known as forum or jurisdiction disputes) and resolving financial matters involving overseas assets.
During our initial discussions I take some time to try to get to know my clients and understand the dynamics in their relationship. This helps inform my advice as well as to enable me to consider how I can best help my client at what is usually the most difficult of times.
I try to ascertain my client’s particular objectives and worries to ensure that we try and work together in order to achieve their objectives and as far as possible to address their concerns at the earliest opportunity.
I endeavour to adopt a constructive approach to resolving client’s cases ensuring that matters are dealt with proportionately and cost effectively.
I fully discuss with my clients the different options available to them and the potential advantages and disadvantages of particular courses of action as client’s must consider carefully what approach is best for them, and their family, both in the short and long term.
Wherever possible I am committed to encouraging my clients to resolve matters without the involvement of the courts. Such an approach may involve the assistance of a mediator or through solicitor led negotiations. The reality is that not all cases are suited to resolution in this way and where necessary I act and advise in relation to court proceedings.
